7 Reasons to Move to Agoura Hills

Agoura Hills is a great place to live in Los Angeles County. There are numerous reasons why families both in-state and out-of-state are choosing to relocate to this fantastic city just outside of Los Angeles. In this article we will discuss why so many people think moving to Agoura Hills, CA is a great idea!

Seven Reasons to Move to Agoura Hills

1. High livability score

A number of websites that rate the “livability” of cities give Agoura Hills an excellent livability score.  The livability score is a broad analysis of the overall quality of living in a particular city.  Factors considered include amenities, crime, schools, cost of living and the overall happiness of the residents. With an excellent score in many of the ranked categories, Agoura Hills is one of the top destinations for people looking to move to the greater Los Angeles area.

2. Education

There are top-rated public schools in Agoura Hills based on a variety of measures, including average test scores, student/teacher ratios, and total number of schools. Overall, Agoura Hills has 16 schools that service the population including some of the best private schools in the L.A. area.

A great education is important to every family, and if this is one of your main criteria in selecting a moving destination, then you can’t go wrong with Agoura Hills.  Additionally, as a relatively small community of 20,000 people, the schools provide a local community atmosphere that can be great for building relationships for the whole family.

3. Weather and Climate

You can’t beat the weather in Southern California, and Agoura Hills features some of the most comfortable weather in the greater LA area.  Even during the coldest months, the average temperature is in the 50°F-60°F range, so you rarely need to wear more than a light jacket or sweater.  The year-around warm weather means that this city is perfect for anyone who likes to enjoy outdoor activities. The mild weather is often given as one of the main reasons that people move to Agoura Hills.

4. High Average Income

The average household income of an Agoura Hills resident is around $185,000 per  year, and has recently grown at 8% per year.  This is above the median household income in the United States, which was $67,521 in 2020.

Of course, a disadvantage of higher income levels is that houses in this region are usually a bit pricier than less desirable areas of the state.

5. Thriving Local Economy

There are plenty of job opportunities available in the area.  The majority of the job opportunities are in the white collar sector with 91% of Agoura Hills residents maintaining white collar jobs.  This region also has a thriving entrepreneurial community with 22% of the local workforce self-employed.  While there are not many large companies in Agoura Hills, its close proximity to downtown Los Angeles provides many employment opportunities with companies of all sizes.

6. Outdoor Activities

Agoura Hills is the perfect place if you love hiking. There are plenty of interesting trails around the city.

Hikers love Cheeseboro and Palo Comado Canyon, a national park that includes 4,000 acres of terrain. Here you will find plenty of trails to explore in the northernmost section of the Santa Monica Mountain range. It’s very popular with hikers, cyclists and runners.

Another national park is the Malibu Creek State Park. It is an 8,000 acre wonderland of trails, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. The hike to the Rock Pool and to the M*A*S*H television show set are two extremely popular hikes in this park.

One thing is for sure, there’s plenty of outdoor activities to do around Agoura Hills.

7. Low Crime

Many suburbs in Southern California feature low crime rates, but Agoura Hills is one of the safest neighborhoods in the LA area.  With a total crime rate 2x lower, and a violent crime rate 3x lower, residents of Agoura Hills are victims of crime at a significantly lower level than that of California as a whole.

In addition, a recent informal online poll found that 92% of respondents indicated that there was “really no crime” in Agoura Hills.
